Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me.”
The call to follow Jesus has always been the line of separation between the true Christian and the hypocrite.
Many people working government jobs today have been given assignments that raise the question, “do I follow the law of man or follow the law of Christ?
In the Bible book of Exodus 1:15-21 we see the king of Egypt commanded the midwives to kill every male child born to the Hebrew women. V:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them. I would like you to give special attention to the words “feared God” for we will use it later in the message.
In the Bible book of Daniel 3:1-25 King Nebuchadnezzar’s gold image was to be bowed to, and worshipped at the sound of music. Daniel’s three friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego refused to heed the kings command and said “let it be known to you, O king, we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.
In the Bible book of Acts 4:1-22 Peter and John were arrested for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. We see in versus 17-20 that the Sanhedrin severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man or teach no man in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
The greatest duty of a christian is to follow the two great commands “love God and love your neighbor (brother). Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor (brother); therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Even the governing authorities should consider themselves governed under the law of love, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
In the Bible book of Matt.10:27-28 It comes down to who do you fear, is it God, or is it man, Jesus said “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in [a]hell.
